🐟 Tinned Fish & Canned Seafood
Canned seafood is having a major cultural moment. Patagonia Provisions helped ignite interest with its “beans and ‘dines” push, pairing beans with sardines to meet demand for easy, protein-packed meals. Across grocery shelves and social feeds, sardines are no longer niche. Social media is brimming with reels and recipes, thanks to Gen Z’s embrace of convenience foods with a retro twist. TikTok’s viral “sardine girl summer” added further momentum, positioning sardines as both a lifestyle and a source of nutrients like protein, omega-3s, and vitamin D.
Why the comeback? While canned seafood may seem like a throwback, its resurgence is fueled by modern values: sustainability, convenience, and culinary exploration. Tinned fish has a long shelf life, reducing food waste and appealing to eco-conscious consumers. Many brands now source from small-scale, traceable fisheries, which appeals to shoppers who care where their food comes from. Packaging is often beautifully designed and Instagrammable, turning a pantry staple into a shareable moment. And with today’s focus on high-protein, nutrient-dense foods, sardines and mackerel offer a low-effort, high-reward solution that feels both nostalgic and novel. What was once utilitarian is now aspirational.

🚀 Rocket Pop–Flavored Everything
The classic red, white, and blue rocket pop is inspiring a new generation of flavor innovation across treats, beverages, and performance products. Rita’s launched a Rocket Pop Italian Ice, blending cherry, lemon, and blue raspberry into a vibrant purple treat with an optional Firecracker Glitter topping. In the beverage space, RYL Tea introduced a zero-sugar Rocket Pop–flavored iced tea layered over real brewed tea, delivering flavor and function at just 5 calories per can. Supplements and seltzers are also leaning in: MUTANT released a limited-edition Rocket Pop pre-workout for the 4th of July, while Twisted Tea added a hard iced tea version to its lineup.
The Rocket Pop, also known as the Bomb Pop or Firecracker Pop, first hit freezers in 1955 during a wave of post-war Americana. Its iconic red, white, and blue layers—typically cherry, lime or lemon, and blue raspberry—were designed to reflect patriotic pride and capitalize on the excitement of the Space Race. Over time, the flavor became embedded in childhood summers, celebrations, and a collective sense of American nostalgia. Today, that same flavor is making a major comeback—not just for its bold taste but for what it represents. In a time of geopolitical tension, economic anxiety, and cultural polarization, brands are using Rocket Pop as a feel-good throwback that taps into unity, resilience, and national pride. It’s a retro comfort reimagined for today’s moment, and consumers are eating it up—literally.
Online chatter echoes the popularity—Reddit users cite Rocket Pop drinks as their current go-to, with strong opinions on which brands deliver the most nostalgic punch. The flavor’s blend of cherry, citrus, and blue raspberry is bold, energizing, and uniquely recognizable. With multi-category appeal and a powerful sense of nostalgia, Rocket Pop continues to fuel launches across both indulgent and functional formats.

🥒 Spicy Pickle Flavor & Pickle Foods
Pickles are more than a topping—they’re a flavor movement. Gen Z is leading the charge into the “pickle era,” embracing sour, spicy, and dill-forward products across unexpected categories. From pickle slushies and cocktail mixers to chips and dessert pairings, the flavor profile is gaining serious traction. Pinterest’s 2025 trend forecast predicted the craze, while fast food giants like Popeyes validated it with a pickle-focused menu praised as their best launch since 2019.
Retailers are recognizing the momentum, too. ALDI’s Park Street Deli Pickle Chips were named 2025 Product of the Year, proof that consumers are craving bold and briny. As sour and fermented flavors gain ground for their punch and probiotic benefits, pickle continues to show strength in both indulgent and better-for-you spaces.

💧 Better‑for‑You & Functional Water
Functional water is no longer a niche—it’s one of the fastest-growing segments in beverages. While recent years have seen a surge in high-protein snacks and high-fiber foods, the real breakout star has been the functional beverage category. From gut health to energy to stress relief, drinks are increasingly seen as a delivery system for targeted wellness. The spike isn’t just a moment—it’s a movement, and it’s here to stay.
According to Glanbia, the functional water category alone is expected to grow at a CAGR of 14.6% through 2028. Consumers are looking beyond hydration alone. Products now include added electrolytes, collagen, adaptogens, prebiotics, and more. They offer clean-label alternatives to sugary drinks, with added wellness benefits and lifestyle alignment.

Poppi’s rapid rise—from niche DTC brand to refrigerated shelf staple—is a case study in functional beverage dominance. Its prebiotic sodas now compete directly with legacy brands, fueled by social media virality and millennial/Gen Z demand for digestive health. Other players like Olipop, Aura Bora, and HOP WTR are gaining traction with fiber, botanicals, and alcohol alternatives, while category leaders like Flow, Liquid I.V., and Path Water continue to expand retail presence. Whether it’s sparkling or still, plant-based or vitamin-infused, water is becoming an intentional wellness product—and consumers are drinking it all in.
